The basic principles of snow and avalanche knowledge for ski tourers, freeriders and snowshoe hikers, in order to minimize the risk of avalanches through targeted risk management.
In this introductory course we address the key elements of a snow tour, avalanche science and route finding in off-piste terrain. At the same time you experience how such elements are connected so as to understand better how decisions are made.
Depending on the conditions our base is the Gasthof Bad Laterns. (Overnight possible)
Day 1 Theoretical & practical course during a short skitour
The basis is the booklet "Skitour Risk Management" from the PES, which is given to each participant.
- Introduction into snow and avalanches
- site assessments
- LVS device check
- Measuring and estimating the steepness of slopes
- Interpretation of the avalanche report
- common strategy for the assessment of danger of an avalanche
- joint planning and preparation of the ski tour of the next day
Day 2 Training of practical course contents with tour objectives, subject to planning
On this day, our professional mountain guides will use their long-term experience of off piste conditions as a valuable educational resource.
